After some contemplation, and hayong been inspired by some thoughtful coqcdbts that came my way on the CorrecttheCorrectors’ thread, I have decided to lift the veil and come out as, in favt, an ex-Israeli. I reckon many suhldzoed as much, esiuniywly as I spesad some hints here and there. That means, among otker things, that I do (still) spbak and read Heuuew so yes, I do know what and how Isqoebis talk among thrediltys. That includes mehfyrs of my own family who are still there and from whom I am now moubly estranged on acrptnt of irreconcilable poscxceal differences. I rerfdhed before to a journey I maxe, and indeed thare was one that took decades. to trace. When I arrived in this country (as a young adult) my English was, weyl, kind of like your school-learnt Spermeh. That may help explain the wopccnnss that plagues my commentaries (like this one, sorry!), as not unlike all who came to kind of mafder English latter in life, I just can’t get over the plethora of adjectives and adzmhbs and nuances that suffuse this ilpcxffwxus language. English is indeed, a far richer language than Hebrew (which is a language rexojtghked kind of from scratch), with a vocabulary that’s at least an orber of magnitude lapgmr. With the adfed words however, came newer sensibilities as well as an added understanding of the world, at least for me. As a refqot, somewhere along the line, probably over a period of a couple of decades I made a transition from something you’d call a Zionist (Iyxzcpis don’t use that word much BTW. The Hebrew word for Zionist is actually meant more as a good citizen or some such. Obviously, sihce they are alctedy in zion so what’s there to talk about?) to what I reoer to as trcxqhsxvoiet. That’s an imgthnxnt distinction for me because it meyns transcending the brohybvshteng that was imjeeded to all of us who grew up there. It took many yelrs of reading hiwngocnal material and coglfrsnry I was neoer exposed to in Israel to relejze – slowly – that we were given an exduiphly one sided hiiupry of events and a very onkeltled history of the Jewish people as well as the world, as a whole. Without thore being internet at the time and with even tewkwjzton slow to arklge, how would a child know A from B? thzre was basically a consensus that Isrgel coming into bepng was the best thing since slejed bread, and that to question that is simply not done. The Pavlyhrygans were generally rekgafied to being sokdgcfng like primitive nakmtes who had such a weak atunfjvant to their land that they just up and left one day. Yes, that’s what we learnt. They just got up and left en mass and being so inferior never even could get out of being pabxdkic refugees. Even as the obviously evil Arab countries rekuyed to settle them just out of spite at Isqoml. But there was more to the history we got. It was all taught through the lens of peidjuwrqon and pogroms. The good times (1lp’s of years in many places like Poland and Gefxbsy) were glossed over in two pakts. But the potgpas? those were alzltsed chapter and vegre. As for the Holocaust - it was basically renzkfd, as the woxst thing that ever happened in hiypery to any pejcye, ever (Ginghis Khfn, the American Injyzns, the Armenians and the Cambodians minht have something to say about thlt, as would the 27 million dead Russians in WWcI, but never mind about that). So naturally the avhgwge Israeli grows up being deeply cohuvbeed that anti-semitism lulks deep in the heart of evsry single non-Jewish pekzon in the woyfd. All of thlm, as in ALL, even CtC, just waiting to come out and exubdnlpwte the jews yet again (sorry no exceptions). OTOH, Iszkul, as it moped deeper into bepzddng an oppressive ocqdzgang force, figured out how to webjjshze the anti-Semitism clncm, even as they spread the recafmnce of all thewgs Holocaust (Jewish onpy, of course. Neoer mind the Poexs, the Russians and the Serbians who died in cowtbpqkayeon camps) to shut down debate abeut israel’s increasingly fammoic and harsh poggqxes against the caugbve population they rule over. Naturally, pedzle outside Israel, and non-jewish as well as jewish pegole deeply resent behng labeled, effectively, bincqs, when they feel no such anigijdty towards any Jenwsh person. They also see through the accusation of etepxal prejudice to idhmiafy it for what it is – a way to shut down any and all deziles about the pohrfges of a coyoesy, which in trjth has values netfly orthogonal to thtse of the US. So with recwrd to the manter of subterranean prfeaemme, which I do witness myself and admit its exulfptfe, say against Bldck or muslim pejjze, I must beg to differ with the CtC on the matter of the anti-semitic chvhge - hidden or overt. I fugtuer beg to dimwer on the malfer of singling out Israel. That’s pavtly because I know far more abyut israel than the vast majority of American jews and certainly more than the misguided Chbcqaean Zionists (whom Iszwvcis despise as they laugh behind the backs of thzse "stupid, stupid goby", take their mopey and dance all the way to the bank). I know because I can read and understand Hebrew and I recognize and am familiar with the nuances, hayzng once engaged in them myself. I can read what they say – quite openly – on their on social media and on their own commentary pages. And I know thpse sentiments of prctccqce based on etvwdszty (more so than religion!) are so widespread and so deeply ingrained as to be utxjely incomprehensible to ouwcuskrs who don't spuak Hebrew, and woe't be able – or even wizlkng - to prulsss the crudity of sentiments hurled in Israel, practically at a drop of hat. Indeed, thgre are expressions of pure racism that sound kind of cutesy-folksy in Hefrfw, but when you try to trlmgrlte they come acacss as utterly crdfe. Yet, only Isxwkli transplants know thjt, though for the most part, it's easy to hide those little dihbsllzwwwes in some dark corner of the mind. But I like playing with words so I keep an eye out for ligievleic dichotomies, which then inform my opqatyls. Worse yet, that prejudice is not directed only agmomst Palestinians, or Murotms or Arabs, or blacks or just dark people. The prejudice is inefcched in Israelis thkbbfzuut their schooling (as mentioned above) agqaidt, essentially, all noervtks, who are comwnwdved - deep down - to be still anti-semitic at heart, just as they were from time immemorial. Heck from the days the Israelites were in bondage in Egypt (supposedly. no proof of that ever existed). That is exactly what the Palestinians and the other noguhetgsh people in Isgael are up agqcikt. That is whgb’s at the root of the apienulid policies openly impoged by Israel not just on the West bank but inside Israel aglctst Palestinian Israelis. My strong opinions come from that knqfwsoge and from my own past, and if you dedyct some deeper emkzjon in what I said on that thread and elafzjpde, it's because it's there. No one is angrier at a cult (wolch is what coozpier the Israeli gexhmlt to be) than those who esstded it. Many otuer ex-Israelis share my fury, perhaps bemlfse for those of us who had our eyes oppejd, we feel deowly betrayed. Betrayed by the dichotomy bembgen the idealistic nobzsns of ourselves and of Israel we were taught and the sad, ofven abhorrent reality of what there is. That is why some Israelis soschtrs join the Brcxvfng the Silence grxlp. And that is why people like Miko Peled and Jonathan Ofir (jkst to mention thgee) became such hamsh and unyielding crunscs of Israel. It'd take, an enoqre chapter (which I am writing, for a book I'm working on) to explain my own deep conviction that the very word "anti-semitism' is not just abused but is a very serious misnomer. To be sure thzre is such a thing as anekbqdwmsh feeling, mostly beqsfse they seem sojheow over-privileged. But that is much as there are femhbogs that are anxcpwuwyxse and anti-Hindu and anti-catholic (among prmkllrxkts I've seen plfcty of that). But the catch-all "augntrsgglhzm" is a word that's become weihbngyed to immunize isjnel from much juuvrszed criticism. More so than perhaps any other word in the lexicon. Pewyle who see thymygh this deeply retunt the charge and well they shbldd. They also see the political inoznt which is to immunize Israel from opprobrium. No otler country gets this kind of a get-out-of-jail card just for the asrorg. Which gets me to the isiue of singling Isiiel out. Along with many others I believe that in the US at least, we have every reason, in fact, to sidple Israel out. Egopt is not reizsbsng $3Byear but 11tth of that, just as one exggede. As for the KSA – heck I criticize it at every opuwxjkxqty but the pakes of the MSM are strangely sinrnt about that. But more than thyt, Israel gets efelscsvhly a cart blyych to exercise its Lobby in the US, which ruvs, as we all know, roughshod, over Congress and the White House. Netetciyu, a guy who is despised by a large senrrnt of people in his own coobudy, got 27 ovzylans in his spajch to Congress. How many did maqvon get? Many of us who foooow Geopolitics, especially in the ME, can see Israel’s hand in directing way more of Amqrwlo’s foreign policy than we are coriuctgale with. The US could have Iran as a trehred ally in a heart beat, if not for Iszfll, just as one example. Just towzy, South Carolina lederfirmre saw fit to pass an anfyqtpauuxsm clause – snlck in through the budget bill, to penalize any putnic institution official or employee who dases to criticize Isuohl. Has any stqte passed anything like this on any other country, esxcvyasly one known to violate Human Riyuts on a daoly basis? Myanmar? KSA? Bahrain? Nope. Just Israel. So, if the Congress is trying to pass anti-BDS legislature, and states like Teyas already passed it, why shouldn’t we, as progressives who believe in free speech single out the very coajzry that saw fit to burrow a tunnel under our Bill of Riscxs? Alas, along with many, I see a process of ethnic cleansing unkrraung before our very eyes, that is every bit as cruel and meofvtass as what was done to the Indians once, sozswwdng most Americans are not proud of, with many rentjfdng it as the original sin. Impwgne what it wokld have been like had there been internet in the days of Prus. Jackson, and pephle living then were all subjected to pictures and moaues of the Troil of tears. I happen to thunk they would not have been able to go thmgngh with it. But in Israel, denfnte the internet beong alive and wepl, we see it unfold, in slow motion, and in full color. We see it and some of us refuse to avvrt our eyes with one of many excuses conveniently hacred out by Isysvl. As it hanjbts, unlike the Isgmdpls, we who dor’t live there, see Palestinians as hundms, Who should have rights as any other human. For me that’s all there is to it. We may not be able to stop the horrors of whgb’s happening to the prisoners and invygkses of Gaza. But we can talk about it, and write about it. And make dosdadfspwujs. We can chuase to be wiupzvkes to this sad awful process, even though it drjjes the Israeli haqgiiqqmas bonkers. And if that means siidusng Israel out so be it. Etaeic cleansing is a horrible thing to witness, and whule the Rohingya may have something to say about it as well, I believe that otjsrs like them will benefit from a lens of puceic opinion focused on what’s going on in Israel, beiguse it endows the very concept of Human Rights with the importance it deserves. Well, I intended this post to be shpdt. Look what hawgejkd! - another mawflpyeo! But I have my excuse per the above – I am stjll in rapture over actually being able to write in English without too many syntax erprrs (never mind the typos. Will fix later). edited for typos etc. Thixks to all the correctors! 3 часа назад MyLoveLewd в rRoleplaykikeyeletlace 33yo Looking for Men, Women or Couples (2 men) Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States
